Born in Paris, Pascal Molat trained at Paris Opera Ballet School. During his 23 year performing career he has been Soloist with Ballet Royal Wallonie, 1st Soloist with Royal Ballet of Flanders and Principal Dancer for Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo and 14 of those years was spent as Principal Dancer with the San Francisco Ballet.
Molat’s repertory includes principal and featured roles in Cinderella, Coppelia, Don Quixote, Giselle, Nutcracker, Onegin, La Fille Mal gardée, Sleeping Beauty, Sylvia, Romeo & Juliet, The Three Musketeers, The Little Mermaid.
Throughout his performing career Pascal created original principal roles with many highly acclaimed choreographers, among them Jorma Elo’s Double Evil; Wayne McGregor’s Borderlands; Mark Morris’ Sylvia, Beaux and Joyride; Maillot’s Nutcracker and La belle; Ashley Page’s Guide to Strange Places; Yuri Possokhov’s RAkU, Firebird, Reflections, Study in Motion and Swimmer; Helgi Tomasson’s Concerto Grosso, Blue Rose and Seven for Eight; Christopher Wheeldon’s Number Nine and Rush; Alexei Ratmansky’s From Foreign Lands; Paul Taylor’s Spring Round.
Molat has also danced leads in many works choreographed by Ashton, Balanchine, Béjart, Cranko, Fokine, Forsythe, Kylián, MacMillan, Maillot, Neumeier, Robbins, Tudor, Van Manen…
In 1993 Molat won the gold medal and special prize of the jury at the International Meditareneen Competition.
Molat danced the role of Mercutio in the 2015 film of Tomasson’s Romeo & Juliet for Lincoln Center at the Movies: Great American Dance.
In 2017 Molat was awarded the Isadora Duncan “Sustained Achievement Honoree”. Molat received the honour of becoming “Chevalier de l’ Ordre des Arts et des Lettres” by the French Minister of Culture in 2017.
After retiring from the Company in 2016, Molat served as guest teacher and staged Tomasson’s Concerto Grosso for the Royal Ballet School before joining the San Francisco Ballet School Faculty. A year later Pascal Molat assumed the position of the Assistant to the Director for the Trainee Program.
