Kaya Wolsey

Kaya Wolsey is a dancer, choreographer, teacher and director residing in Aspen, CO.

 

Kaya received her early ballet training at Wasatch Ballet Conservatory under the direction of her mother, Allison Wolsey. She supplemented her training with prestigious summer intensives including Pacific Northwest Ballet, San Francisco Conservatory and Ballet West. At 16 Kaya joined Utah Regional Ballet II (now known as Utah Metropolitan Ballet) and then went on to receive her BFA in Ballet from the University of Utah.

 

Kaya began her professional career with Ballet San Antonio and later joined SALT Contemporary Dance where she grew and honed her craft as a contemporary dancer. After her tenure with SALT, Kaya joined Aspen Santa Fe Ballet and toured the world performing with her dream company. After ASFB dissolved their performing company, Kaya played an integral role in building DanceAspen from the ground up as a founding member and Director of Operations.

During that time, she also performed as a guest artist with South Dakota Ballet. Throughout her performing career, Kaya has had the opportunity to work with and perform original works by many reputable choreographers including Nicolo Fonte, Jorma Elo, Alejandro Cerrudo, Peter Chu, Daniel Rowe, Penny Saunders, Cayetano Soto and many more. In addition to her performance career, Kaya is an experienced teacher and choreographer with 13 years of experience teaching Ballet, Contemporary, Improvisation and Progressing Ballet Technique to students of all levels and ages. Kaya has conducted master classes for various institutions and studios, including Vail Dance Festival, Ballet West, and New Mexico School of the Arts. Kaya has been choreographing for over a decade, and her work has graced both professional and student stages. Notably Kaya has choreographed full-length works for DanceAspen, South Dakota Ballet, Municipal Ballet and recently choreographed a new work for the SALT Contemporary Dance LINK Festival.
